The Internet has many different advantages that it
offers. “Ever since the Internet has
been moved into the mainstream, it has opened up a wealth of opportunities for
everyone. These opportunities are personal, professional, business and even
educational. This doesn’t exclude socialization, sharing information and to
simply have fun.” (Goessl) In my opinion, one
of the most important advantages that the Internet offers is being able to find
any piece of information with just the click of a button. Whether it is
educational, or for fun, the Internet provides information on anything you
could ever need to know about. For example, yesterday I got lost and it took me
under a minute to pull up my Internet and find out where I was. Another major advantage of the Internet is
being able to communicate with loved ones who live far away. Instead of writing letters every so often,
you can hear and see them in minutes, making distance manageable. Lastly, the Internet has given us convenience. It’s easy to find directions, pay your bills,
shop, and so much more, all while you are sitting at home. The Internet also
gave us all of the Apps that we know and love. While the Internet offers an infinite amount
of advantages, there are also some disadvantages that come with it. Since the Internet has become so popular and accessible
to all, it has caused security issues.
Identity theft has become a prevalent problem since the internet has
grown. “Technology, mainly the Internet, facilitates
more elaborate schemes, such as skimming, phishing, and hacking as criminals
gather profiles of potential victims. Computer spywares and viruses, designed
to help thieves acquire personal information, are an emerging trend.” (Anti Fraud) Another main disadvantage that is often
talked about is socially. I agree that
some people may get caught up with the Internet and spend too much time fixated
with it. You may miss the fun of life if
you are on it 24/7, but if used right, the Internet can be a great way to find and
take advantage of fun opportunities. Lastly,
I think that a disadvantage of the Internet is that people use it to take
advantage of others. For example, recently
on my Instagram, I saw that there had been a fake page that was set up to
collect donations for dogs and that all of the money donated, had been
stolen. The Internet makes it a little
easier for people to do this, but it also makes it easy to get the word out
there so that this can be prevented, like my friend on Instagram was doing. In conclusion, I think that the Internet was
the greatest invention of the century and it’s exciting to see it advance year
after year. I also think that it’s
inevitable to have a few disadvantages to the Internet, but for the most part
it offers huge advantages.
I would also agree with a big advantage too a small disadvantage because it is so easy to access and is very easy for people depend on for there daily needs as we see today. When it is only a click away everybody will use it, this is why there is a high rate of people on social networks "due to its easy to talk to and hide behind a computer and be somebody your not". This is why the advantage for the internet is good and helps alot of people find jobs, network, sales, paybills and even help people find "true love which is coming very popular in society today online. The internet helps us do transactions fast and gives us a wider variety of things to search for if not satisfied, you can search and find more "just one click away".
